SMS Verify

Account recovery with a verified phone number

Members lose access in three ways: they forget the password, forget which email or username they used, or lose access to that email entirely. A verified phone number on the account covers all three — it is the one identifier people almost never change.

Three recovery cases a phone solves

Collect the phone before they need it

Recovery only works if the phone was verified earlier. Add a verification step to signup — or to the profile page for existing members — so every account carries a verified number, not a typo. A verified number also comes with a logged consent record, useful if you ever text members about their account.

Keep it safe

Match the verified number to the account on your server, never trust the browser alone. Use short-lived, single-use codes and rate limits (iBlueText does both by default). For high-value accounts, add a second check — a security question, or a confirmation email to the old address — before changing the email on file. And give the same response whether or not an account exists, so recovery pages can't be used to look people up.

iMessage makes it faster

iBlueText sends recovery codes as blue-bubble iMessage to iPhones — instant, with one-tap code autofill and no carrier spam filtering — and as SMS to Android, worldwide, for a flat ½¢.
